Hello. JeffF here. We have had chickens for almost three years now. This is our second winter. We started with 4 hens which were rescue from a crowded flock. We still have two of them. One died to a raccoon and the other natural causes. We purchased 6 more hybrid browns. The two from the originals do not lay anymore.

We just really enjoy tending to the girls and giving the eggs away to friends and neighbors. It is a very simple and calming chore and the girls really like our company. We have a neighborhood boy who is in 4 th grade that comes over and is always asking to help tend the girls. He is so cute with them. He really loves the chickens. Another thing we love is when our 4 year old grand daughter comes over and sees them. One of the originals was named by her over two years ago. That one is Ducky. We also have a neighbor that brings their son over to feed the chickens. We leave a small pail of freeze dried meal worms and black soldier fly larvae out for them to feed the girls. I have a landscape company and always loved the idea of farming. This is a little bit of that without going in to deep. It really adds to the character of our property.

So glad we found backyard chickens on Facebook. What a great community it is.
