Hello Everyone- I've just joined the group. Our family have around 70 hens with a couple of roosters. The chickens free range during the day and come into the coop at night. We started out with 4 hens, then 12 and now 70. All but 12 of them are still young, I expect they will start laying eggs this spring. We plan on selling them as free range eggs. Would be interested in suggestions in this area. Right now we are not organic... Not sure this would be economical. Thoughts?

I've never sold eggs before, or become organic, so I can't answer your questions. Hopefully, some members who can help come along.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. You have quite a large flock. We've sold eggs to our neighbors around us for years, but never really worried about going organic, and it certainly hasn't affected our egg sales. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of hens do you have?

I'm glad you joined us.

I don't sell my eggs, either, so can't be of much help. But in general, it is very hard to make a profit out of just a small backyard flock. That's why commerical producers have some many birds. If you become organic, you may be able to make more of a profit.
