New to the hen house in Florida

Thanks so much Ohio, we thought of the ceramic egg, but trimming the beak sounds like a great idea if it doesn't interfer with her eating. It's worth a try, I really would rather have her eggs than chicken dinner. Evelyn part time in Ohio

just trim the beak back in small amounts until you see a spot of blood. when the bird is sitting on the floor you would have to look hard to see where you trimmed it.

the roll out nest boxes do work too. but i have had hens that would break the egg before it got to roll out, and a rooster who would lay down in the boxes reach back and break the eggs. on the same note, i have trimmed and had them keep breaking eggs. if your afraid of trimming, you may try a roll out nest box first. i have better luck with the trimming.
