Hi all... My wife and I have been considering raising chickens for about a year... so last week I found this chicken coop at Tractor Supply http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/precision-pet-orb-country-classic-coop.
'

I wanted to expand the run so after another hundred or so bucks and several trips to Lowe's, oh and the decision that I wanted a tractor, we ended up with this...

Now, what breed do we want? or do we just roll the dice and take our chances... No. We decided that because of their appearance, heartiness and beautiful eggs, we wanted to get the Ameraucana breed. Unfortunately, the closest breeder to us in Northeastern South Carolina, is in North Carolina, about an hour away. We contacted her and she just happened to have a half dozen bantam Wheaten Ameraucana chicks about 3 weeks old. Road Trip!

So now we have them home, stayed in the house overnight since it's raining today. Stone had to kiss each one as I put them into their temporary home. I think we've made a great decision.

Thanks for all of the information this site has provided. I'm sure I will have more to contribute.
