I am in North Jersey and we are looking to start a chicken coop. I am in the market for 5-6 chicks. We would love to get them locally instead of online to supper the local agriculture. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

glad you have joined us.

Don't know a local source, but you could explore the "where am I, where are you" forum for folks closer to home: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/537/new-jersey

Our local feed/seed stores only have chicks in the spring, but planning ahead is IMO the way to go. It's a lot easier to move them outside at 5-6 weeks when they are born in the spring. Contact those in your area to see if and when they have them.

Also consider contacting your local Agriculture Agent - often they can help locate local breeders.

If you haven't already done so, visit the learning center - there are so many articles there to help you get started.

Also the coops/run forums offer examples of what others have accomplished - most with details to help build the coop you need.

Good luck in joining this great adventure.
