Hello everybody! My name is Deborah.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Well, my husband has been raising chickens since he was a kid, so we've had chickens on and off for the 13 years we've been married. I started hatching in the incubator last year, and ever since, I've been contemplating getting my own for a family flock and/or eggs.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have a total of 43 chickens right now, with a box of 30 chicks on the way next month.

(3) What breeds do you have? We have Buff Orpingtons, Light Brahmas, a Blue Copper Maran, a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte(sold to us as the Blue Copper Maran's mate), a pair of silkies, Tetra tints, a couple of banties my daughter got at the local sale barn, some game birds that I hatched off last year, and- my favorites- Black Cochins and Splash Cochins. The box from the hatchery is going to have Mottled Javas, Buff Cochins, and Russian Orloff.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Google is my friend ;)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I also have a little greenhouse, full of seedlings and adorable baby plants that will go out in the garden in a few days. It was originally for my Hoyas, my other big thing, so I would have a place for them to get lots of light and humidity, and with Spring coming on nicely, it will be empty except for those and a couple of succulents I'm rehabbing for my mother-in-law.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am an at-home mom with 4 littles, from 11 to 5 years old. We have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 3 horses, and 2 guineas. We live on 8 acres of family property out in the country and LOVE it.
