The best advice I can give is make the coop much bigger than you think you need.You WILL want more and you don't want to build another coop.
We built a duplex last month with 2 runs for 24 chickens.I started out only wanting 4-6.I gave oodles of the 25 chicks I oredered away.I am down to six and kicking myself.I am getting more .We are also planning a new coop just for silkies and one for turkeys.It's a disease,I tell you.

BTW Mine are only 12 weeks old! But I'm hopelessly addicted.
Then there's the goats..........

I have an 8 X 12 coop and wish I had made one MUCH larger... and I wish I had room for a bigger run.

Start out at the Learning Center... get your coop built and then I always say, 'variety' so you an determine what you like the most.

I have a little white leghorn that lays huge jumbo eggs. I wish I had two or three of them.
