Me and my wife just got 6 baby chicks this week and are excited to start our chicken raising. I do have a question about a silkie chick we got. I was wondering when you can tell if it will be a hen or roo?

You can usually tell at about 3 months. Or when the female silkies stand they stand in a squatting position, but males will stand up straight. Do you notice that in your silkie?
Good luck with your flock!

Silkies are one of the most difficult breeds to sex before 4-5 mos. of age and sometimes not till they crow or lay eggs. THAT is the main problem with buying young chicks. You may want to ask on the "Silkie thread," and/or post at "What breed or gender is this."

Welcome!

I agree that Silkies are tricky to sex and yep, sometimes the first egg or first crow are the only way you will know for sure.
