Hi, My name is Michaele and I live on 3 acres in NJ and know nothing about chickens. I raise dogs and with the high incidence of Tick Borne Diseases it's been suggested that I get some Guinea Hens. My biggest concern is that I have a neighbor with an electric deer fence. If the hen goes over there, will she learn to stay away or get scared to death?

. You might try asking in the Guinea Fowl section. I know many people on here use electric poultry netting but guineas can fly much better than chickens.

! Great to have you in our flock! I have also heard guineas help keep the ticks down. Unsure on the electric fence question. Good luck and enjoy your birds!!

Guinea's would solve your tick problem and I don't think the fence will kill them. I have a electric fence around my pen but when a bug runs by they stick their heads through and get shocked but they still try to get the bug so it must not hurt them to much. Glad to have you abourd and good luck from So. Ga.

One guinea alone would be a very unhappy bird - they are flock creatures. They would rapidly learn to stay away from the electric fnce. Welcome to BYC.
