I think the roughest time is when they are so small, about 2 weeks old and you will take a deep breath and say wow I did it. Electrolytes can be hand made. Here is the recipe I used when one of mine had a pasty butt.
Electrolytes Recipe
1 quart of water
1/2 cup of sugar
2 teaspoons of baking soda
Place all three ingredients into a pan and heat it till it boils. Turn off the burner and lets cool completely. Give at room temp. Must refrigerate and it will keep for a week. I used it with all my chicks. Gave this for the first two days as their water supply. Then I went to half water and half of this Electrolytes mixture and cut it back each week. To a quarter and then none the following week.
The other chicks are picking on the chick with the pasty butt because its now a bit different ( could be smell ) of the sheen the oil is giving the chickens butt. If you could divide off the brooder and give the chick its own area but still be with the rest of the chicks that would be good. This will keep them still as a flock and be able to interact with each other but not be able to pick her while she is clearing up. Make sure to give her food and water as well as the others.
Hi
I gave them electrolytes today and probiotics. I noticed a difference today . Drinking and eating overall looks better. I have two of them together and they can see the others through the holes ( divider) they're still in the same tank . I feel better too lol. Thank you for the recipe .
