Agree on simply taking the young roosters to freezer camp at 19 weeks!!!
The two better laying mixes are the Red Sex Link (called by their hatcheries as ISA Browns, Red Star, Cinnamon Queen, etc) and the Black Star or Red Rock. These hybrids outlay just about everything out there. The Black Sex Links, called Red Rock/Black Star is larger, will eat better at the end of laying, but are much more shy. The Red Sex links are mostly small bodied, but are super layers, don't eat as much, and are extremely friendly and funny.
Both of these typical hybrids are available at hatcheries EVERYWHERE. They comprise a huge ratio of all chicks raised and sold.
These hybrids aren't breeding stock, but hard to beat, if lots and lots of eggs are what you're after. Not everyone is.
