I'm new to this BBS and not sure if I'm posting in the apprpriate forum, but anyway...

My wife and I had been wanting to keep chickens for a few years. Several weeks ago we came across a Craigslist ad for some Bantams - the lady had gotten 25 chicks in spring to add to her couple of old hens but didn't have the space for all 25. She had a few breeds but a lot of roosters, so we selected four hens (one black Silkie, one Old English, two Dorkings) and two roosters (a black Silkie and an Old English). Seller agreed to hold the chickens until we had a space for them. It took me two weeks to build the coop and enclose about 1100sf of pasture. The birds came to their new home last Saturday and are trilled with their new space. I'm still working on a few unfinished items but they are relatively safe, secure and happy.

We placed an order for 15 chicks and they are expected to arrive mid September. I'll try to take some photos of their coop and pasture/run later as I'll be finishing up a few more items on the never ending chicken to do list.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Wife is out getting some supplies/parts, but there is a nice breeze and it is pretty warm so I might go sailing for the rest of the day. It isn't like I was going to finish everything today anyway...

The coop:

The coop is 6x8, built to be movable, incase the Twp doesn't like it 4' off the lot line. Clear roof is great, but was a pain to install. Their area is 32x34, with poultry wire burried 1' deep around the perimeter. We have every possible varmint frequenting our 3500sf veggie garden so I wanted to be safe. I'll be placing a row of pavers around 3 of the exterior fences to discourage digging. I'm still working at installing bird netting above the pasture, hawks have already shown an interest. Still a lot of unfinished stuff, but it works right now and our chickens are happy.

Please let me know of any suggestions!
