Good morning, and Happy Thanksgiving Eve ;)

I hope everyone is fully prepared for tomorrow. I have newly joined this community, as I have set up my first coop and am looking on the right place to get a few chicks.

I prefer to pick up locally, versus shipping. We are attempting to change out habits, to avoid all factory farmed meats- without going vegan. This is one of our steps, just to produce eggs in the back yard and have more animals to love.

Welcome to BYC!:frow

There are tons of people here to help you if any problems arise! You just have to post on the correct forum and give a brief description of symptoms and a few pictures if necessary and you would be good to go! You can also make cute articles about your chickens and how they grow or something else not related to chickens! Have a great day!

Hi Jax!:frow Welcome to Poultry Paradise.
We are 2.3 hours South/South West of you. Been there so many times. So glad you jumped into this forum.

We had our Family Event last Monday because of work schedules on Turkey Day. I hope yours is a wonderful as ours was.:)

I like to buy local too. What you see is what you get. I am not to fond of the USPS handling a living organism, if all my glass shipments are cracked..lol

We started off with egg makers many moons ago. Actually Show Birds day one. Chickens to Goats to Cows to Swine to Turkeys... Victim of Farm Math I am.
If you have any questions, so many have answers - suggestions & solutions here on BYC.
Take care and a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday to you & yours..

Good to see other North Floridians, I am located in Lake City, and a few weeks ago made the trip to Rural King over in Gainesville where I grabbed some Barred Rock , Black Australorp, 2 buckeyes and some silver Wyandottes. However after getting all these chicks I discovered there's a lot of already grown chickens in our area on Craigslist and with the cold coming you may look that route. I'm able to heat my coop with 250 watts which allowed me to let them go outside at 3 weeks old with lots of bedding of course

G’Day from down under SBrandt :frow Welcome!

Have you decided on a breed? If not, this article might be helpful: Pickin a Chicken

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
