I am a teacher and am hatching eggs for the first time. I got a dozen fertilized eggs from a farm store and put them into the bator immediately. They have been in for 21 days today and the automatic turner was turned off Friday. We have no holes or anything in the eggs. They are brown eggs and we have been unable to see anything with lights and have not attempted candeling. We have tried to listen for peeps and think we may have heard something. How long do we wait before knowing we are not getting any chicks?

Temp has been held steady at 100degrees and humidity has been monitored closely for the duration.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would candle them with a good flashlight or make one using a 100 watt lightbulb. If they arent too dark brown you should be able to see something. I hatched brown eggs and could see fairly well using just a normal flashlight. What has the humidity been? Were you turning them until the 18th day or did you have an automatic turner? Im sure someone will have a better answer or suggestion for you than me.

I wouldn't open the incubator at this point...the humidity is tooooo important at hatch time. Just wait at least 2 more days before doing anything. Maybe your thermometer was a little off and the temps were slightly low. A lower temp will cause the hatch to be a little late. A lot of people put 2-3 thermometers in their bator and get 2-3 different readings!

I really hope they hatch for you!
