New to this Turkey & all in general :-)

Today, I received my lone turkey order from TS. He came with 9 Chicks. Doing all the homework I can. Unsure of his variety.
I Hope I can use this link here. If not feel free to erase. It would not let me upload it the other way. Thanks

Its breed is Turkey, its variety is most likely a Broad Breasted White also known as Giant White. In my opinion Tractor Supply is being irresponsible by selling a single turkey poult. Turkeys are very sociable and need and do best among their own kind. Chickens are not acceptable companions.

Turkeys also need a higher protein feed than do chickens and Tractor Supply refuses to carry proper Turkey starter. It isn't just about the protein content because turkeys also need the higher levels of lysine, methionine and niacin found in a proper turkey starter.

It is also irresponsible to sell broad breasted turkeys to people who are most likely to raise them as pets due to their expected short life spans and health problems because they were developed to be a fast growing meat bird to be processed after 4 to 6 months of age.

There is also the issue that if you live in an area that has the disease blackhead, it is a really bad idea to keep chickens and turkeys together.

Well, first let me say "Thank you" for that. This Turkey is not going to be raised as a pet. This turkey will not be housed with Chickens nor will it live by itself. I just wanted to find out some information to get me started in the right direction. From what I haven been reading most information on the net was contradicting. This is a new endeavor by me.I wanted to learn more. But, again... Thank you!

To the best of my knowledge, Tractor Supply only sells broad breasted turkeys. Since your poult is white it is most likely a BBW and not a broad breasted bronze.
