I just had three gorgeous little chicks hatch and I'm a bit confused about the breed. I have all brown egg layers (the hens are a reddish colour, but I can't remember what they're called. They're very common though) and a rooster I got from a friend of mine. He has a white speckled body with a multi coloured tail.

My chicks are all different colours. One is pure yellow fuzz, one is yellow fuzz with a brown stripe down the back and one is basically all back with a bit of yellow speckling and a white spot on its head!

They're as cute as all get out, but I was very surprised to see the different colours.

Any thoughts?

They hen sounds like a Rhode island Red they are common and lay brown eggs.
and the black chick sounds like it might be a barred rock. if it has a very distinct dot it will probably be a rooster or if it is more blotchy it might be a hen. not sure about the others.

Thank you!

I guess a rooster can carry more than one "breed" in it? I had no idea! LOL!

yeah they could be mixed breeds I would have to see pictures of the others to make more guesses

I have to go to work, but when I get home I'll take some and post them.

Thanks so much!
