My wife have been gardeners for almost 15 years and I have been a beekeeper since 2007. We have been talking about getting chickens for a few years and now that our kids are all almost out of the house we are getting even more serious about it. Our neighbors two doors over inherited four chickens and a portable coop and it inspired me to start digging further into getting chickens.

We’re looking to get chickens more for the eggs and the manure (for the garden) and to work further to the day when we can move up-county or even more rural to live on a farm. i work from home so it makes life a lot easier to care for chickens.

We ordered some books from Amazon (Storey’s guide to raising chickens,The Chicken Chick’s Guide to Backyard Chickens, The Chicken Health Handbook, 101 Chicken Keeping Hacks, and Backyard Chickens: A Practical Handbook to Raising Chickens) which we intend to read over the fall/winter to prepare to get chickens in the spring.
