New to us Chickens!

Hi! and welcome to your new country life. Chickens can be a lot of fun as all have different personalities. On our farm we like to give the chickens hard boil eggs, make sure you crush them up, shells and all. They love them and the shells are good for them also. Best wishes to you and your family in your new venture! Welcome to backyardchickens...great people and a wonderful source of information.

:welcome

In addition to feeding some back to the girls as other greeters have said, I'm a baker and use a lot of eggs with that. Every once in a while, I also give some to our 3 house cats. And of course, friends get there share. Somehow, we always seem to use them so it's a good thing the girls keep laying them!

G’Day from down under Schafersmans :frow Welcome and Congratulations!

Excess eggs? Of what do you speak? ;) I have freeloading bantams who spend more time broody than they do actually laying eggs; good job I love them :p

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. 'What to do with all those eggs' is one them so you might find that to be a good read.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
