These are my new additions to my flock! Yesterday my dh got me six - 2 day old-Bourbon Reds from Cackle hatchery. They are a birthday gift. I wasn't planning on getting anything but eggs to hatch here but he surprised me. They are so friendly and so lovable already! This will be my first experience with turkeys

I'm sure you will enjoy the Bourbons, they are the most curious of all the breeds we raise. When they see us they all come running to check us out and see what we brought them. They love rings, buttons, toes, fingers. lol

I wish I could get such a great b-day gift lol, but I was born in December so it's harder to do that.

Keep us posted They look really cute

I have always wanted turkeys, but it's the one thing my Dh puts his foot down about. He says they are mean and he was attacked as a kid and he won't have them around(yet I have geese LOL) Oh well I'll live through pic on BYC

Steve, does that mean I shouldn't wear sandles around my turkeys this summer?

Julie, my dh thinks geese are mean. LOL I never considered turkeys before but one byc'er was telling me how friendly hers are and then other jumped in to say how much friendlier than the chickens they are so.........................

Nah- you can wear them, the turkeys won't peck off to many toes at one sitting they just like to nibble.

And wearing the sandles are better because then you don't have to wash the "sticky dirt" (as my son used to call it) from between your toes.
