New (unusual) Button Quail Chick

Pics
Baby is almost 3 weeks old now. It definitely looks like a girl but its silver sibling is getting a white bib, so we have 4 boys and one girl in that bunch!

At this point the younger three that are coloured like this are looking like girls too. But the caramel one looks to have quite a red tail so I'm hopeful it's a boy (so I can see what a boy looks like).

I've had more babies hatch today - no more of this unusual brown but there looks to be one caramel, and two ivory chicks, plus three cinnamons and a wild type. Compared to the chicks hatched under a hen, or mostly incubated by a hen (until she decided to give up), these chicks just don't seem as lively and strong.

She is pretty! I have a theory that it is sex-linked, as my one is certainly a male, almost identical to his dad. It would require more research though.

I'm going up to see that breeder soon. That pretty male on her ad and the ivory girl he's matched with have eggs due next week (fingers crossed). I said to her I'd buy all of their chicks.

I think it's sex linked too like the caramel colour. I found an Australian forum where they were discussing sex linked cinnamons which is what I think is referred to elsewhere as caramel. There are a few photos of caramel hens online but no cocks.

You'll have to post a photo of your boy. I can't wait to see what they look like as adults.

I'll try and get a photo of Amber tomorrow but the weather is supposed to be not so great so we shall see. But... I'm very excited to finally have a male Caramel - his little white bib has just started showing itself. I'll be so interested to see how he ends up looking

I also hatched out one Coturnix quail who arrived two days early. It's been ridiculously hot here and so unbelieveably humid it's not funny. Our indoor temperature has been 86F (30C)! None of the other eggs I put in with that one developed so there are a couple more a few days behind him/her. He'll have some big friends soon, but he seems quite happy hanging with the littlies. He's so much fuzzier than they are and so docile.

This is him with a brand new Button chick and the other two Buttons are 5 and 6 days old:
