New (unusual) Button Quail Chick

I've had wild colored males that didn't start to show the bib till they were 5-6 weeks old, so 'Oddball' might just be a little slow. How old is he now?
It looks like he is beginning to get the grey sides/chest, as far as I can tell from the picture there are a few grey feathers at the edge of the bib area :)

These ones must be in the 5-6 week old range now. Can a hen have a red tail? I got my daughter to hold it while we got some close ups. There is no colour coming in on the tummy and no white feathers round its face, but that tail is red.

I've seen one picture of a hen that had a red feather somewhere on the lower back. Not in the vent area. I think she was just a freak of nature and I've never seen a female with more red than that, so I'll say no.
Isn't the face too yellow still for it to be 5-6 weeks? At 6 weeks I sometimes can't tell my wild colored girls from their mothers, that must mean they no longer have down in the face by then..

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how he turns out :)

Can anyone tell me what temp will overheat and kill coturnix eggs? I have been having thermometer issues. Finally got it solved, but now i am worrying. Only on day 2.
104°F for more than 2hrs will kill the embryos.
Edited to add: It really becomes critical at later stage of development, such as, in the last couple of days left in the incubation period. Then less than 2hrs at 104°F will kill. I know this from experince, happened to me with 54 fairly rare pheasant eggs. Temp was 104°F for around 1hr the day before hatching, before the alarm went off but by then it was too late. Cracked them open to find fully developed chicks that should have hatched had the temp not spiked at that time.

Oh crap, they may be dead. I think they may have hit 105 but not totally sure. I am going to be so sad if none of them make it because i screwed up.

Yeah, 105°F is a killer for sure....if it was for a prolonged period of time. A quick spike won't harm them, only if the internal egg heat is at that temp for a prolonged time.

I've got quite a few at different ages all in together so I have lost track of which are what age! And I'm terrible about doing staggered hatches which is how I end up in this situation.

It's an odd one that's for sure because the other cinnamon boys all have beautiful red right up their chests and are starting to get the grey/blue too. My daughter has already declared we are keeping it!
