Coop is almost finished. Hope to pick up hens this weekend. Still haven't decided which breed. Want good layers and easy keepers. The following are available:

Buff Orpington
Black Australorp
Rhode Island Reds
Barred Rocks
Black Sex-linked
Black Australorps
White Leghorn
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Light Brahmas

Which should I pick?

Buff Orps are superb layers of large brown eggs, they are pleasant to be around, make large attractive birds that are hardy and easy to care for. They mature quickly and lay earlier than some other breeds also.
They are just the perfect all around chicken!

I like the variety of colors and breeds in my flock. I have a lot of the breeds you have listed. my particular girls have the following characteristics (don't know if it's them or the breed) all were raised together.

buff orp..sweet, docile easy to handle. very vocal, talks a lot
light brahma....most friendly of my bunch, love human contact
austrolorpe....very pretty, a loner bird, not friendly but not mean
RIR.....skittish from day one, beautiful but not friendly
BR....my favorite, she's just so pretty. friendly too
wyandottes....sweet but don't like to be handled. love their treats, the first in line when I shake the treat cup

all are reported to be good layers (I'm still waiting!)

Good luck and welcome to BYC!
