New user!

how do you mean a "trip"? my barred rocks are quite well behaved personally, but i have a specific chicken that does like to be troublesome! my Isa brown lady loves to jump out of the run area and nest in a nearby ash pile..
Let me clarify…it has been a trip getting Barred Rock chicks at least for us. Seems a common breed to get but our first order through a local feed store, we order 11 Barred Rock chicks. After some growing out it turned out we received Black NJ Giants. All were to be pullets we received 10 pullets and 1 rooster. Then we found a local breeder and purchased a dozen eggs to hatch (18 eggs). We had a hatch rate of 80%. After a month of growing we found we have some barred chicks but 4 are solid black with black legs. Contacted the breeder who said she has had some hatch and grown out all black. We believe these are crosses. The purpose of raising these are to cross BR hens with Welsumer Roosters to get Welbar. Not knowing if these are true barred rocks or not, we cannot be sure of a Welbar project. This is the trip to which I speak. Still the chicks we have are lovely. It should not be so difficult to get Barred Rocks. Left with raising NJG on top of it all.
