I have made a new watering bucket with four nipples to drink water, it appears to function properly. How do I get my birds to drink from it?

First the day you switch them over to the nipple system you need to remove ALL other water sources. What I did was sit on a bucket by the new water bucket system and "click" the stainless steel thingies over and over and over and over and over...you get the picture. Now you know why I sat on a bucket! I talked to the girls enticing them over, and eventually one of them came over to where I was clicking and pecked at it, got a drink....it was like she said to the others girls "hey! There's water over here!!!" They will switch over it just takes patience.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I have never used a nipple system, but Iwiw has given you some great advice! Tapping on things will make them take notice. Let some water drip from the nipples as well.

Good luck with converting your birds and welcome to our flock!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock!! I too have never used the nipple system, but great advice there from iwiw60. Hope you get them used to it soon and all works well for you :frow

Glad you joined us!

My chickens learned how to use a nipple waterer rather quickly. I simply removed other water sources, pushed the nipples around a bit (to make water drip out), and then one by one, each chicken tried it. Soon, they were all using it.

We're glad to have you.

To teach my birds how to drink from a nipple waterer, I tapped the nipples several times so that water dripped out. The chickens investigated and discovered that it was water. It didn't take them very long to learn.

Hello and welcome!
Like previous folks said, tap it and they will come! :)
I really love my water buckets with poultry nipples. No more poopy, muddy waterers to scrub out!
