New welsummers

Here are the a couple of new chicks from this weekends hatch. 10 out of 15 hatched. One died last night.

Congrats - how cute! I only have one Wellie; she's not a great layer, and she's the yackiest chicken I have! I love her, though! She's a sweetie!!

If all the remaining 9 make it we will have 15 chickens. A few more than I wanted to start with but it will be fine. There were still 5 eggs in the bator this morning.

If we end up with more than 1 wellie rooster would anyone be interested?

Do all welsummers have dark striping?

That's what I have read. The pullets are supposed to have a more defined V shape on their heads too. I don't even pretend to think I can tell which are which yet!

The females have a very distict triangle shape on the head & "eyeliner". The males triangle is a little more mottled looking.

MichiganLarry - You will love Wellies, I love my chicks right now (and am buying more eggs).

I may have gotten very lucky then cause most of the chicks have that V and eyeliner. Only 2 that I "think" are roosters.

Would you say that the chick I am holding in my hand is a hen?

I have only 2 that hatched from two different breeders. One is a definate roo, and one is a definate hen. I would just like a few backups.
