Just a quick question but how are most of you shipping your eggs and what kind of packing material are you using? I want to partake in some of this swapping but just want the eggs to be safe if I trade some off.

I haven't ever shipped before but have received a lot of shipped eggs. I will ship in a medium priority box because I've never had luck myself with the small. And bubble wrap each egg and set them in crumpledyup newspaper then cover with more newspaper. Making them snug in there but not too snug.

Welcome to the swap.

I wrap each egg in bubble wrap ( I use a half sheet per egg and burrito wrap them) then place them pointy end down in a box (medium flat rate box works well for 6-12 eggs) cushioned with bubble wrap or wadded up paper depending on what I have. You don't want the eggs to move but want enough give to where the eggs won't get smashed if another heavy box is placed either on top, side, or bottom. My preferred way then is to place that box within the #07 priority postal box with bubble wrap, newspaper, or whatever other cushioning material I have. The eggs are double boxed to help with protection from smashing and to keep the eggs more temperature controlled.

I have found that for shipping eggs it is the same price or a little less expensive to weight the package and purchase postage then it is the use the flat rate box. For heavy items the flat rate boxes are generally the way to go. Of course you have to have a scale that shows lb and oz if you want to ship from home.

With all that being said there are all kinds of threads on shipping eggs and there are several good ways to ship eggs. Some people ship in egg cartons, foam shippers, plastic eggs and cushion with bubble wrap, newspaper, shredded paper, wood shavings etc. I think making sure the eggs are nicely cushioned is the key. You don't want them moving around within the box. Hope this helps.

It can be confusing. All you have to do if you want something is say mine and post what it is you're offering. It's really easy, and fun, when you get started you'll see.
think thats where my confusion is .. if someone offers something and someone counter offers with an item is it automatically taken or does it have to be accepted by the original offer?

say I offer bunch of seeds and someone counters with mud pies (just example) and I dont want mud pies what then?

You choose based on what is currently listed. That person would send their item to you and you would have your items listed for another person to choose from. This is an ongoing chain of trading that continues. It's not just between two people. So, you can claim something that you like, then offer something and someone else can choose if they like it and it goes on and on.

Chat thread is here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/527550/what-ya-got-swap-chat-thread/18760 where we can all chat it up, learn new things, ask questions, etc. It helps to keep the offer on the right page and easier for people to see. :)

You only claim the offer that's listed then place an offer. The offer you accept is yours. The offer you place is the next persons. Then the person who accepts your offer places an offer it does not matter to you what they offer you already accepted an offer. Then someone claims that persons offer and so on.

Yea no problem.

Mine on the Serama Eggs!!!

My offer is. . . .

As many common purple Iris rhizomes as I can fit into the $13 flat rate shipping box. These flowers are hardy as can be, once they take hold they will last a life time. They are pretty common but they smell like cotton candy.

This picture is of the same type of flower but since they haven't started blooming I had to find one online.

These are the actual rhizomes.

They are healthy and thriving just in the bag alone. You should end up with more than 15 bulbs if not closer to 30 if I can get them in there. You can plant these buggers in the snow and they would grow.

Or. . . .

12 sheets of your choice of rub on appliques. I have holiday, quotes, themed, and random picture appliques. These can be used on a variety of crafts and sealed to last a life time.

This canvas is not for trade it's just to show how I used some of these!!!

This was also my original confusion. That's not how it works. Say I'm offering Mud Pies and you want them and you have seeds. You say mine on the mud pies and I'm offering up seeds. I don't get your seeds. Another person comes and says I want the seeds and they offer some hatching eggs. And so on. It's a chain not a trade. You got to choose my pies and you offer your seeds. Someone else chooses your seeds and offers up something else.
