Just starting on the chicken thing. After some research, we chose the Eglu Cube. It was shipped today, and I can't wait to get it. We plane to get 4-5 layers...

I'm currently thinking

Buff Orpington
Barred Rock
Rhode Island Red
Wyandotte
And.... not sure

It's just hubby, me, and3 dogs. Depending on how the dogs and chickens get along ( they did great with our parrot for years) we would love to free range our chickens when we are outside gardening and working in the yard

Hoping for just enough eggs for us.

Welcome!
All the breeds layed are great choices. ...are you interested in just brown eggs? If not a white laying breed such as Leghorn, California grey, etc or blue/green layer such as easter eggers, crested cream legbars, etc might be something to consider

Just got notification that our coop arrives on Wednesday!!!! I'm beyond excited

I can already tell that if we weren't limited by the size of our coop, I would end up with way too many chickens

:yuckyuckGood luck with that ! Its an odd thing called chicken math...somehow you end up with more than you "expected"....I think we should do a survey on BYC about how many people still have the same number of birds that they started with! :lau lol
I spent all last fall building a "coop addition" :weerunning around trying to beat the snow & rain. I went from 5x8 to 15.5 x 8...It was a good thing as we had one of the hardest winters in about 10 years, and they didn't go outside for about 2 months!
