New to it all I plan on getting about 10-12 hens for eggs. 1 of them I'm thinking a silky for my daughter. I am really doing this for my 2 yr old and eggs cant hurt :D I grew up on a farm and I want her to experience the life. I built a 8x8 I still have to do the run and door. I think I am going to do the automatic door. I live in NJ the NW part.

Welcome to BYC! 10-12 hens will get you lots of eggs. Unless you plan to sell these eggs you will be up to your knees in them. Perhaps you should consider 4 or less if these eggs are for you and your daughter only. Beside that, I think your coop looks fantastic! That’s a lot of dedication and the blue is wonderful. Check out this article on building coops, to get ideas for your run and final touches:

And for chicken breeds, I know my opinion is one of many, but I do think that the Speckled Sussex is a great breed for children and families. They are docile, friendly, and great layers. It is the same with the Orpington and Easter Egger, which are both among the many friendly breeds that families enjoy. I suggest the Speckled Sussex on top of both those and others, for mainly the reason that they are friendly and calm like the Silkie (which you say you like) and make fantastic starters for any new chicken owner. My Speckled Sussex loves people, and was one of my very first chickens. Of course, listen to other spokes suggestions, as you may find other breeds you like!
