NEW!

Thanks for giving us such a great introduction! I feel for you for all your losses; sometimes chicken keeping is hard! The chickens definitely make up for it, though. I wish the best for your flock! Your rooster is cute and I sure love the crested ones! It will be fun to see if they lay some nice olive-colored eggs! Welcome to BackYard Chickens!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

So sorry for your losses.
Can you post pictures of your setup? The only predator that I can think of that will easily tear through properly attached 1/2" hardware cloth is a bear. Possibly a cougar.
Reinforcing the setup with hot wires may be the solution to the problem. I back up my setup by surrounding it with poultry netting powered with a 10,000 volt charger. Nothing has gotten through it in near 6 years.

I am so sorry about your chickens that have gone.:hitDo you use chicken wire? Also, I LOOOOVE your rooster, he is soooooo adorable.
:celebrate
No, I use hardware cloth and have since gotten a new coop and new run that's 10x20 enclosed in hardware cloth and regular chicken wire wrapped around that. The coop is inside the run and its windows are hardware cloth.
It's new so I'm working on the apron and reinforcing the roof for the winter. Last year's run was an enclosed run and that run was inside of a 30 x 40 chain link permanent dog run that wasn't in use and the heavy snow took it down. I'm not messing around this time 😉.
And thank you. The rooster's name is Russell Crow!
