I am trying to ask questions but not sure how/where to post. If I have a question about illness do I go to that forum?

Yes, your best chance of getting answers to specific questions is usually to post them in the forum they fit in... ie illness questions in the Emergencies forum as you mentioned https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures if you are not sure where a question fits, you can just ask and somebody should be able to direct you to an appropriate forum.
