Wait on the rooster. Once you are comfortable with your pullets and they start laying, you can find a proven gentleman of a rooster and add him to your flock vs. getting a male chick or someone's "oops" cockerel who is just pretty and no one really knows his temperament.
Go for one that has been broody hatched and raised with older birds and a senior rooster. They tend to be good boys.
