Hi, I'm Tim from the WI/MI boarder area. I am interested in a small flock of laying hens. Probably no more than four at this time.
Currently I'm not allowed to have chickens in my town even though we are a very rural, small community. I figure the time will come where we will be allowed to have hens as the Wisconsin Assembly bill AB42 is in the works to allow backyard flocks of limited numbers. I am working with my city manager hoping she will be proactive about changing the city's rules. I've also contacted my local state Assembly Rep to support AB42. That bill, if passed will prohibit local officials from restricting small flocks. If you are in Wisconsin please send a message to your representative to support AB42.
I will have a bazillion questions going forward. I'll post my first question on another post today asking...
Are there any small laying hen flocks (half dozen or less hens) that I could visit within a 90 minute drive of Niagara, WI? Niagara is 90 minutes north of Green Bay on the MI border. I would like to be able to show city officials that well managed flocks DO NOT SMELL! So, I'm very interested in the "Deep Litter" bedding method or any other method that results in no negative effects to my neighbors. Thanks for your interest in helping Wisconsin work towards the freedom to raise small flocks of laying hens.
