NEWB to caring for chickens!

hello all. i am from toms river nj. i want to start on owning chicken for meat. i want a hen and a rooster to start the breed and lay the eggs and raise the chicken for meat.
i was wondering what are the best breed of chicken for that and where would i purchase them around toms river new jersey 08753.

thanks for the info. but does anybody know any hatcheries around the toms river nj 08753 area? i dont want to order online because minimum order is around 100chicks and i only want 2hens and 2 roosters.

a feed store is always a good place to find 1 or 2 birds, craigs list too.
