PLUS!!!!
I think it was very unfair and rude of you to come out with questions like that THEN say all replies WELCOME, ....THEEEN to give the people grief who gave you your WELCOMED replies. You need to take a chill pill and go play with your ducks Mr EX Law Enforcement Officer & US Fish Licenced Falconer. You obviously got the response you were looking for in the 1st place.

Okay..Thank you for the responses. I apologized to anyone I may have offended. I was just caught at a bad moment. Thank you all for the replies. I have been working all day on some pens and will post later photos of pens and ponds. I have many ponds, small and large. I may try to cover completely the smaller ponds, for I like to enjoy the birds in their most natural setting.

All the best everyone.

You're right I must take a chill pill. You must understand that my entire life has been spent protecting the public and wildlife. I take losing animals very seriously and take offense when one insinuates I may be acting reckless with animal welfare. I should not have used the L.E. reference, but I did because I have served my life protect others and wildlife, and recently returned from Iraq after serving one year. I have worked at zoos, universities with animal research and as a Vet tech too. I would never intentionally put any animal, or person at risk. The questions were asked to test the atmospherics of the forum. But, as you pointed out, I was to harsh. Thank you for pointing that out.

First off,

I highly suggest to keep your ducks in a smaller enclosure with something as easy as a kiddie pool pool for a water source. Snapping turtles will probably take down your ringed teal. Plus woodducks are a little on the wild side and given any chance will fly the coup sorta speak. Featherfinder is right about this BYC forum. I love it and you can get LOTS of great advice. Just remember this IS the internet and lots of people on here chose to remain anonymous so you dont know if you are talking to a 5yr old or 90 year old person. Just like Dr todds "Quote" says. You also dont know (unless you do a little digging) If that person has even raised said birds. If someone on here offends you with a response you can "click" on their name to find out more about them and how they answer post on the threads (kinda like a background check) and if that doesnt help (although most of the time it will !) you can always contact one of the Moderators to solve the problem or they may contact you if you are outta line

They run a great site here and hope you stay and enjoy the wealth of knowledge. Shawn

Everyone I know who has wood ducks has them completely confined.

They are too expensive to buy just to watch them disappear over the horizon, or to feed them to the local wildlife. They don't tame down well.

I would treat the teals the same way because they are wild ducks. However, I don't actually know anyone who has teals so I haven't seen the sort of housing used.

What has not yet been mentioned is that they are wild, part of the migratory act, and require permits (check your local/state laws) to keep them. This is why buying them and allowing them to be anything but contained in an enclosed pen gives other duck owners a bad name. It isn't that you want to put them on the most natural setting possible, but that there are regulations set forth for keeping captive bred creatures such as these.

Similar but the same as someone who has a monkey or tiger. There are housing requirements and permitting requirements to protect both the animals, and the local environment.

Enjoy the ducks, looking forward to you sharing photos of the enclosures.
