Hello

Like I said, our little rooster will just walk into the thick of the chicks and lean down and start to stare at them like he's hypnotised! Then a baby chick will run up to him, give him a peck, then run back to the rest and he's released from his frozen stance. Then 3 seconds later he dose it again. He hasn't touched them yet. We cant figure out what he's doing! Silly Bird! Are the chicks in danger? What is he up too? Is he just that simple minded that the chicks are that entertaining? We have separated him until we find out what he's up to, any advice?

Is he an adult rooster in with baby chicks? He may not have seen chicks before and doesn't know what to do with them. I haven't seen that particular behavior before but my rooster, although introduced as an adult, was introduced to adult hens and immediately started dancing and finding them treats so I didn't see what you are describing.

My main concern with adding and adult to babies would be that he injures them so I would watch very carefully but it doesn't sound like that has been a problem so far.

My rooster does this to ME all the time. I think he's trying to be intimidating and assert his dominance. I'm not quite sure but yours isn't the only one!
