5 days past hatch date. last night one chick pipped, but after a couple of hours of what i hoped would be a succesful hatch, mid early morning the chick seems to be lifeless....

there are 21 other eggs in the incubator and wondering what we should do next... it was sad to watch something so sweet try to start live only to appear to not make it...

any suggestions would be appreciate... i have read so much that i totally confused on what we should do...

thank you

You could try candeling them and see if they have any movement, or if they had even started developing. I've also heard of the float test, but haven't tried that one. I am only on day 22 and only had four chicks out of about 24 hatch. Three more have pipped. Have any other of your eggs pipped?

we candled the eggs... 2 of them never developed past a certain stage... they must have died early on, but we couldnt tell... several were just yokes...no growth at all and one we cracked that was solid with no visible air sac...must have had no air.... it was very slimey, and had not absorbed its yoke.... it had already died... that was sad... the pipped egg we turned over and realized it was about 1/4 way around the egg, however no vocals when tapping the other eggs... and no responses or movement noticed... We put the ones back in that seem potentially viable... those that had a clear air sac... and upped the water ... we are going to give it 30 days which will be monday..... if no movement or chirping, i think its time we start over.

We did notice something very odd, when we received the eggs... they were put into the turner as instructed with small point down.... but when candling the eggs, we noticed that the air sacs were forming at the small end of some of the eggs... i have a feeling these wont last either...

thanks for the input.... this has been like loosing a pet almost...

Well.... no change from yesterday.... except that the eggs seem to be developing discolored spots on the outsides... from what i have been able to research, it appears this may be bacteria... i checked them on my lunch break and the incubator seems to have an odd smell now...

I think we need to remove this batch, clean the incubator and wait for the new batch my husband ordered... He so desperately wants some Jersey Giants and Bantam chicks.. :>)

I read a story yesterday of eggs which hatched at day 31 the guy thought it might have be due to a drop in temperature, i would candle remove any that your definitely sure have no hope and leave the others in until day 31 or 32 tryed to find the thread but cant sorry good luck with yours :)

Thanks I appreciate it...think that's what we will do... I will look gor the thread. :)

Ok back... our 2nd attempt, we figured out that the still air bator we couldnt get the humidity high enough. We have 3 babies we helped. 12 that must have died in shells as they were mature, yolk absorbed and ready to hatch, they just never did. I know everyone says dont, but the egg was too hard and they wanted out. :) . 2 are doing very well, but the 3rd one we cant get to eat, it stumbles everywhere as if its drunk, been trying to administer the antibiotic water... its breathing is very rapid and it sounds like its got a stuffy nose. Any advice would really be appreciated.

He couldnt have caught any sickness this early so its probably a side effect of his hatch or some deformity? All you can do is keep him fed watered warm. Do his feet look normal like the other chicks or are they curled in?
