I’m a new chicken and quail mom. I’ve got 6 mixed breed (one Plymouth Rock the rest unknown) 16 week old what appear to all be girls, that I incubated with my kids this summer. We also have 2 Plymouth Rocks and 3 Buff Orpingtons about 13-14 weeks old, also incubated. Also pretty positive they’re all pullets too at this point but we shall see. They are all so sweet, and quiet! We had some incubation fails for sure but I have a Kebonnix now that I love. We just hatched 12 coturnix quail this week in it. Everything is new to me! Lots of trial and error, and now I’ve stumbled on this wonderful website. We built our coop with mostly free material, pallet boards, old tin and plywood given to us, and things we repurposed. We are still working on it though. It’s a bit windy today so I’ll post pictures another day. It has been fun! We grow vegetables, and mostly make our own chicken feed too. We live close to the shore too so kelp is easily harvested and these birds get some good seafood treats now and then (salmon and octopus they love). Anyway. I’m glad I stumbled upon this place.
