so we had a broody and stuck some eggs under - we've never done this before and 4 out of the 5 eggs had nothing in them. One was dark from the beginning so we were going to throw it away last Saturday. however when we arrived home from work there was a baby chick! totally surprised and never had one before. We've taught 'Miri' (short for miracle) how to drink and mum has taught it how to eat. My problem is - they are in a box in the bathroom as they had to be separated from the other chickens as they tried to damage the eggs. The chick is 4 days old and mum keep jumping out of the box and going on walking and not going back to the chick until we actually put her back inside the box where she snuggles with the chick. I'm due to go to work tomorrow and I'm worried mum will jump out of the box and not return to the chick until I get back to work. Will the chick survive on its own inside the box all day or will it get too cold and die? Should I put the chick under a heater instead? Thanks from the first time chicken granny!
