Thank you so much for all the helpful replies, I've had a look through all the links and there is some really useful stuff there. I probably should have said, I'm in the UK so not everything will apply regarding the suppliers.
I was looking at the cream legbars, some of the other breeds mentioned are harder to get here unless you hatch your own. I'd been thinking that point of lay would be better to start off with.
I am going to a fairly local poultry breeder tomorrow, they have really good reviews and a great reputation. I'm going to spend today continuing to prepare the area in my garden for them.
so glad you decided to join us and good luck with locating the breeds you want.
Are you planning to incorporate your flock into garden access or just clearing space for them? I love the idea of letting them help with garden chores, but my garden is to remote to have accomplished that.
At the minute my plan is to have a coop inside a walk in run which will be 4x2m My garden is enclosed so they can come out into the main garden when I'm home but should have enough space in the run and be secure when I'm out.
The coop will be raised off the floor and the one im getting said big enough for ten to 12 large birds, but I'd like to make sure they have plenty of space. Does the run sound big enough, they will have several hours in the main garden every day.
