Newbie chicken owner, first build.

I'm a newbie too, but that right there is why I insisted to my husband that we needed to build up the fence on the 4' dog run (that's being converted to a chicken run) so that you can walk in, to get to the coop in the fully enclosed area. I know I didn't want to bend over and crab walk those 5 or 6' to the door.

Also a newbie, I figure from what I've read that the run also needs a cleaning out at least once a year. The litter (I plan on straw in the run) will be used in my gardens. Mine will be walk in and the nest boxes, pop door and an access to add more litter to the coop will be under the run roof. That gets me out of the weather when doing daily chick chores. There will be a big clean out coop door on an unfenced side for ease of cleaning.

Like I said , I plan on free ranging the majority of the time, but when all the grass is worn out I'll cover the ground with sand.
