i still can’t figure out whether to think of her as a he or she. she is a month old. here are her brothers at the same age:

orion, the brahmarolle (1/2 sib)

jojo, her full-blooded sibling

pea combs are tricky, so i hesitate to even begin to put a guess on it. all that i’ve noticed is she’s the least “friendly” of the three, doesn’t spar like orion and jojo do. however, it really could be anything.

any guesses? :) of course i’ll update when she crows/lays!

here are her parents:

The mother is very unusual for an olive egger. Looks like one parent of her was laced. Her comb is also unusual. It looks close to a Silkie type comb.

As far as gender goes, the fact that her facial skin is dark makes it a lot more difficult because that color will mask any redness. And that is one of the big things to look for in an early cockerel.

So we have to go be comb size alone. It's not big, but it's not tiny. I think pullet for now, but keep watching the comb and wattles for growth spurts.

Aside from the color, that comb looks like what I see surprisingly often on the EEs I get from the local hatchery. My little OE from the same source has this type as well.

This pullet is 7 weeks now but there hasn't been any comb change, it looked the same at 4. So, I am going pullet on your little BYM.
