Hi all,
I'm one of the new urban chicken keepers. Wanted chickens for a while, but a long night on this site helped me cross over. I love eggs & cool looking birds and animals in general, and after many sessions of baby chick stalking at a local feed/pet store next to my Trader Joe's, I took the plunge, purchasing 3 "sexed" chicks -- a Marans, Ameraucana, and R.I Red. Next, I sought out a silkie 'cause they're so cool and quickly found a local breeder and a Blue silkie chick. I've finished up with another silkie (black) and a WCB Polish chick. Busy building my urban coop and obsessed already. Downside: already figured out (via this site) that the Ameraucana is rapidly becoming a rooster.... (not allowed in my situation)...and me, such a pacifist! LOVE the site. Thanks for all the good advice already.

from WI. Hear you about the roo....Same here , no roos allowed. Lucky (so far...I am 99% sure that my RIR Lucy is a she....) all mine are girls. I would have been in trouble, finding a 'no chance for chicken stew' home .....Hope you can relocate him
