Hello everyone. Please help. This is my first time incubating chicken eggs. I have automatic egg turner inside. I have been candling every so often and things looked fine. Now I am on day 17 and it occurrd to me the dark end is up. And possibly air sac is down and the pointy end. Some eggs are completely dark at this point so can'take tell. But some are easy to see. How did this happen? Got eggs from a neighbor. Also, going into lock down tomorrow. Should I lay them on their side? Or prop pointy side up since that' the side of air sac. Thanks to all! So confussed.

A little more info. I have 18 eggs in incubator. Yesterday I saw movement in all of them. Now today some are so dark I can' see through them. Don'the know if that' good or bad. Have tried to keep humidity between 30 and 50. It fluctuateseems alot. And tried to keep temp right at 100 but it fluctuates also. Not by much though. Any thoughts?

Hello and welcome to BYC!

What you describe with your eggs sounds normal to me. They are dark and you can’t see much at all because the chick is so large now it’s using nearly all the available space. The air cell will be at the big end but there is a clear area which looks similar at the pointy end, especially if your light source is at the pointy end.

Good luck with your hatch. Please come back and let us know how you get on :thumbsup

Are you sure the air cells are on the pointy end of the eggd? This would be extremely unusual. Air cell naturally forms on the wider end but can be detached with rough handling before incubation, in which case the cell becomes a bubble that freely moves to whichever end is kept up. If you have kept them fat end up I don't see how the air bubble could be on the bottom of the eggs. When candled with a bright enough light in a dark enough place, the air cell should always be visible. Unless the eggs are very dark shelled.
