Newbie Duck Mama

I am searching for solution to a problem i have with my duck. We got 2 ducklings from TCS around Easter this year, everything was going great and the ducks were happy campers. Every evening around 8:30 to 9 PM they would come in the house and come down the steps into my bedroom and wait for their Grape treats, after their treats they would go up the steps and into the bathroom with a bathtub and Jump in the tub for the night, just like clockwork they had the routine down. Well last week some how the neighbors dog got into our yard and Killed our Male Duck (Kong), Kiwi has been very vocal since and she is looking for her buddy, any buddy at this point, she even tries to follow my 3 lb chihuahua and my little Pixie dog wants nothing to do with the duck. Kiwi keep trying and My pixie keep running the other direction. We put a mirror outside for her and she is somewhat less vocal so that is a good thing. We are trying to find a duck rescue to find her a companion, not sure if that will work or not.. I think i know the answer to this but I will ask anyway, we were thinking of getting a duckling and seeing if she would try mothering it, I am assuming this wouldn't work but though I would throw it out there. Does anyone know of a rescue in the Thayer Ks area, I am not having any luck finding anything close, I looked on craigslist and most are at least over 2 hrs away, for some that isn't a great distance but I have medical issues that make the drive painful for me.. Thanks for any suggestions you all may have..

oh no so sad - i’m sorry. no, I do not believe your young duck would mother a duckling 🐥
A duck needs to first be “broody” and sit in a nest and hatch the eggs in order to feel motherly. I do hope you can get another duck that’s already grown up. If you have to get a duckling why not get two and raise them together until they’re old enough to be with your lonely duck. you can put them in a see but not touch situation.
and give your lonely duck a mirror and a stuffed animal.
