Newbie Duck Owner

Welcome to BYC! What kind of ducklings are you going to get? Also you probably already have done research, but I was NOT prepared when I got my first ducklings and I don't want that to happen to anyone else, so a quick tip is to do LOTS of research to figure out exactly what they need! (I was so unprepared it was NOT good! 😆) Keep us posted about how it goes and what you get! My current babies say hi!

oh my goodness, they're so cute! thank you for the pictures - and yes, i have non-stop been doing research since my parents agreed to let me get ducks xD

the breeder near me has blue/black swedish, ancona, and cayuga ducks - i'm planning to get one of each! so four in total
:D

hello! i'm honestlyghost, or just ghost, i'm 19, and i'm currently looking into getting ducks.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've had a couple chickens over the years, and have some currently, but they're mostly my parents'. i've always wanted ducks, and my parents finally agreed!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
currently we have four hens and we got a straight run of six lavender americauna chicks just a few days ago. as for ducks, i'm planning on getting four.

(3) What breeds do you have?
for the chickens, we have six lavender americauna chicks, two austra whites, and two red orpingtons. there's a breeder near me who has black/blue swedish, ancona, and cayuga ducks. i'm planning on getting one of each!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
chickens are so fun! i love their personalities a lot - we had one hen, spider gwen, and she would fly up to my dad's shoulder and sit there while he worked on stuff. i adore ducks and have wanted some for years but my parents always said no - since they finally agreed, i'm so excited to get some.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
i like to read, hang out with my dogs, play video games, watch t.v., i write sometimes...

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
i currently live with my mother and step-father (who adopted me when i was 11). i have 10 chickens, 9 cats, 4 dogs, a cockatiel, a bunny, 2 guinea pigs, 2 axolotls, a hedgehog, a ball python, a crested gecko, a leopard gecko, and a bearded dragon. i am currently unemployed, but my last job was at a local, family-run pet store, and before that i worked at a emergency vet for a few months.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
i've been researching ducks and their care and came across this site multiple times, and i decided to join so i can get advice and be a part of the community!
Welcome to BYC from St. Louis! I love ducks too and have 2 pairs of Cayugas, a pair of Pekins, and Indian Runner Ducks, Australian Spotted, Snowy Mallards, East Indies Ducks and Call Ducks. My favorites are the Penciled Indian Runners, but the Cayugas are very calm and sweet too. You'll love the duck people here!
