Hey all, I'm really glad I found a rescource to post my questions when they come up.

I have just built and populated a large chicken tractor type coop with 5 birds about 8 months to a year old. One is actively laying.

I have a verly large back (3/4 acre) yard that is not fenced in. Can I open door to the run and let them out durring the day and close it up night?

We have a cat but i think he's already lost interest in them.

Let me know what you think.

I wouldn't let them out unless you are there to watch them. Mine like to roam, our yard is just under 2 acres, and I just had to finish fencing it in this weekend to keep them in/ stray dogs out.

If you let them free range in a open area, even when you are at home be prepared for losses. Your cat might not be interested in them, but others will be. I have 3/4 of my 2 acres fenced, and I still only let mine out when I am home. Can never be too careful.
