Hi everyone. I have been super interested in starting my own backyard mini farm. I've planted my veggies and set everything up and now i wanted to raise some chickens. As pets. My only problem is being new to GA (just moved here from ma 2 weeks ago) I have no idea where to go to get chicks. I dont want to order from online because i dont Need 20-25 chicks. i only want 6-10 depending on price. Also I want all Pullets.
I'm not horribly picky on Breed as long as they are either brown or white egg layers, and that they are a friendly breed or semi friendly. Thats about it. I have a huge fenced in backyard and also my husband already built a coop for when they are out of the brooder stage.
If anyone knows where in the Duluth area or near by i can buy chicks and feed and supplies i would be SO very grateful.
I was hoping to have them already but have had no luck finding a place near buy to purchase any.
Thanks
Diane.

If you have a Tractor Supply around you could still get in on their "chick days" promotion. They usually have a featured breed that will be straight run, red pullets, some form of meat bird, ducks and whatever else is there. They do have a 6 chick minimum though. Almost all local feed stores are taking custom orders or have chicks this time of year. A couple phone calls and you should be able to find whatever you want. Tractor Supply has everything else you need for setting up your brooder too!

I bought mine at an Orschelns, don't know if you have one of those down there but mine had no order minimum and had all the supplies i needed.

Welcome the the BYC!

Welcome to BYC. You can order from Meyer hatchery or Mypetchicken. They sell day old chicks at a minimum order of 3 chicks. For a little extra, you can choose all pullets, no cockerals. Shipping is a little expensive though because of the small order. You can also order from Ideal hatchery. They require you purshase at least $25 worth of chicks on your order, a little extra for all pullets. It works out to about 11-13 chicks. Shipping is very reasonable. I have ordered from all three over the years without any problems. You can check them out online if you wish.

Join the Atlanta Backyard Poulty Meetup group and ask on there... There are tons of helpful people there that would be glad to get you started.

You can also call North Fulton Feed and Seed and see if they have any... they probably have the cheapest feed near you also.

There are a a lot of BYCers here in Georgia (including me). I'm not sure where Duluth is though. I'm below Atlanta if thats any help. ILOVEFRIZZLES is in Hamilton and I know she has chicks for sale. She's also having a get together(this Saturday) that I'm sure she'd be thrilled to have you come and visit. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me. Oh and WELCOME to BYC!
