Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Amy from Minnesota. It was my husband who really wanted hens for pets and eggs and I, the animal lover in the house, was dragging my heels thinking they would be just too much work.

Three years later and I'm obsessed with my ladies.

I am a work from home photographer and video editor who shares my house with my darling Havanese Posh who loves her "hen sisters," my dearest six year old daughter Violet who refers to herself as "the chicken whisperer" and is often found singing to her hens or reading them stories, my dear art teacher husband and the instigator in raising chickens, and my loveable "tween" son Sage who isn't as poultry crazy as the rest of the family.

Unfortunately, this winter we lost our beloved flock to a murderous mink. We believe we have found the entry area and sealed it off and currently have twelve new hens in our living room. They are our "yummy" flock. Cupcake-Silver Laced Wyandotte, Trifle & Flan-Speckled Sussex hens, Cream Puff-Columbian Wyandotte, Meringue-White Plymouth Rock, Eclair-Australorpe, Creme Brulee & Quiche-Silver Cuckoo Maran hens, Cookies (Snickerdoodle & Pecan Sandy)-Buff Orpington hens, Pudding-Partridge Plymouth Rock, & Chocolate Souffle-Barred Plymouth Rock.

I am excited to share with other poultryphiles!

Glad to have you aboard! Hope you're able to to keep the predators at bay and your new flock can enjoy a long, happy and productive life mink-free.
