Hello there!
I'm from North Carolina and a part time staff at Carolina Raptor Center! I'm not new to birds, but I am new to chickens.
I have been in the zoo field for a few years now and I've been looking for a full time job. Most of which, that involve birds, want breeding/incubating experience. I don't really have this, so that's why I have gotten into chickens! I'm looking to start my own little breeding program to get some experience in raising birds on my own. I decided to go with silkies, although some other breeds have been trying to convince me as well.
I currently have two silkie chicks, which I think are blues. I ordered two blues and two blacks and someone I know transported them for me. Unfortunately two have passed, and I'm not 100% sure which color the other two are. One of them seems to have a little bit of barring on the wings, so now I'm really confused!
Anyway, my coop is currently in the process of being built, and I'm hoping to get some more chickens! Eventually some peafowl too. I'm looking forward to having lots of fun with my chickens!
