Hi everyone! So I got caught by the chicken bug and I have quite the group going right now. I think I may have an obsession lol I have 7 2-week old chicks (rare breed varieties that I'm not sure what they actually are yet. I'll post below so maybe someone can identify them for me) the waiting is unbearable! I also have 6 5-week old chicks: buff orpingtons, barred rocks, and Australorps. Since I was impatient for eggs, I bought 3 yearling chickens: 2 Americauna and 1 Welsummer.
The only ones in the coop right now are the 3 yearlings. The rest are cozy in my garage....for now. The 5 week olds are really getting antsy to get out. I've had them outside fenced in for a couple hours at a time and they LOVE it! I think they really want to be outside....but is it too soon? They will be 6 weeks old in three days. It's been in the 90s here so it's definitely warm enough. They also have all their feathers it looks like.
My husband, my two daughters (6&3), and I are soo excited to have these new family members! I appreciate your advice!

Welcome to BYC!

Those are adorable chicks!

Your 6 week old chicks should be ready to move outside. You can pen them near the adults so that the two get use to one another over a couple weeks and then try an introduction.
However, careful that the youngsters don't over-heat.

I'm not sure what breeds they are, but they are awesome colors already, even though they are still only chicks.

Best of luck!

Darling chicks. As said, they are ready for the outdoors. I have a chick nursery that I am getting ready to put some chicks in. They will be a week old when I do..it is so warm here, not worried about them at all out there. Eating and drinking well. :)

Go and post what breed is this in the search bar above..photos are loved on this site!

Beautiful chicks, I would love to know what the mottled ones are. Did you order any bantams, the one in the second picture is really tiny & cute as a bug.

Thank you! My husband and I sectioned off the far end of the run around lunch for just the "6ers" chicks as I call them, (since I have 3 age groups going at a time. I'm crazy!), and they LOVE being out in the open! They were flying everywhere!!! Just taking off cuz they could. Hahaha it was hysterical to watch. My daughters were cracking up. The big hens were of course nosey and wanted to know what all the racket was. But then they just went along in their own business. I think they will get along just fine. I brought them back in before dinner time and they all snuggled right down for a nap. Just like kids! Lol what fun this is.

Thank you! I bought them from a local small town hardware store. They were an Assortment of Rare Breeds from Meyers so I just picked 7 of the cutest ones I could find. I was only supposed to bring home 6. OOPS! How did that extra one get in there?!

I'll post on the "what's my chick site and let you all know when I find out. Some have feathered feet! I hope the little one is a bantam. My daughter wanted a small one so she picked him out.
